Growlers & screamers

  Solar oralizer

The Solar oraliser is a self-powered sound generation system. It is comprised of a solar panel hooked up to an array of speakers via an electrical inversion system. The energy harnessed by the solar panel is converted in real time into a continuous audio tone, oralising the solar potential at any give moment. The pitch and volume correspond to fluctuations in light/dark attenuating from a low whistle at sun rise to high pitched scream during mid day.

  Solar visualiser

The Solar oraliser is a self-powered light regeneration system. It is comprised of a solar panel hooked up to an array of LED's via an electrical inversion system. The energy harnessed by the solar panel is converted in real time into a continuous light, visualising the solar potential at any give moment.

  Growler

Here a car engines exhaust system is amplified via an exponential flare. The viewer is able to rev the engine via a foot pedal.

  Design tools: Autocad 3Dsmax
Construction: Backyard boogie Hydraulics, In house
Materials: Corvette 7.5 liter V8 engine, Steel, car parts and hardcore ballast
  Features: Foot pedal
  Weight: 2 ton

  Positive feedback

This project consisted of ready made parts assembled in an odd way. A commercial generator was coupled to a microphone. The microphone picked up the exhaust noise, in turn this was amplified through a speaker that the generator powered.

  Date of project: 2003
Items: 2 KVA generator, microphone, powered monitor
  Features: synthesized exhaust noise
  Weight: 100 kg
